Free Community Info Tables:

As a commitment to our community, we aim to involve community-based organizations in our Markets. Under normal circumstances, we charge for space at the Markets. We have made an exception with community groups. We set aside one free space each week at each of our three markets for community education. This is our way of saying thank you for doing the work you do and offering you an opportunity to inform others of your organization.

We attract between 1500 and 7,000 people in the 4 or 5 hours we are open (depending on market location). We attract people from all over the city, as well as from a wide range of cultural and economic backgrounds. Many of our regulars are community minded and interested in the betterment of our society.

Our free community table is popular and requested by many organizations. Unfortunately, some organizations book the space and do not show up. This is most unfortunate for those that have been turned down due to no vacancies. As a result, we are now charging a refundable $30 deposit to book the free community space. This deposit will be completely refunded to your organization after it shows up at the market on its reserved date.

Due to the large number of organizations that express interest in this free space, we have to limit it to organizations whose work focuses on:

  • Agriculture
  • Food Security
  • Community Health
  • Community Economic Development
  • Health Education
  • Environmental Issues in the GVRD

If you are interested in this opportunity, the commitment is small. We ask the following:

  • fill out the application form to request a space and send it to our office with your $30 deposit;
  • remind your volunteers one week prior to your being at the Market, and please inform them of the commitment below
  • show up no later than 15 minutes prior to opening on morning you have booked for and stay until closing, regardless of weather or turn-out.

We provide the table, chair, awning and interested public. Additionally, you get to enjoy the activities of the Market, meet people who support your efforts and have access to the freshest food in the Vancouver area, directly from our local farmers.

Since this table is a free space, there are limits to what you may sell. The only permitted items are:

  • society memberships
  • general donations
  • raffle tickets
  • event tickets

You may not sell T-shirts, coffee mugs, buttons, badges, plants, seeds, food items, or other items not listed above at this free table. Additionally, to sustain the economic efforts of our vendors, free food and hand-crafted items may not be offered at this space. If you want to sell or distribute something that is not on this list please call our office for more information.

If you are interested in participating or have further questions, please email us at info@eatlocal.org

Please note: Parking at the East Van Market is very difficult. If you or your volunteers are bringing a vehicle to the Market we ask that they park under the skytrain guideway near Commercial Drive or at the Croatian Cultural Centre parking lot at 16th & Commercial. If your organization needs to drop off heavy or bulky items, you may do this inside the Market and pick them up after 2 PM. Parking for one vehicle only is available at the West End Market. There is usually ample parking available at the Riley Park Market in the parking lot of the stadium or along Ontario Street.
