FRESH IDEAS
What a concept—bring farmers directly to the
people who buy their products. Let them meet one another. Let urbanites learn about
what to do with rutabagas and how they're grown, and let farmers hear about new produce
shoppers are interested in buying. And let farmers receive a fair price for the food
they produce. It's called buying local and eating seasonal.
Today, almost all of our food is imported
while local farmers struggle to make ends meet. Foreign countries subsidize their
farmers or pay unfair wages allowing imported food, when the same local product is
available, to eventually destroy our local farmland because BC farmers cannot sell
their produce and make enough money to cover the cost of producing food.
