Winter Farmers Market Open!

inside_wise
It rained a little but it didn't dampen the spirits of the vendors and shoppers who came to the first Winter Farmers Market of the season. It was a great day and nice to be back in our familiar home at the WISE Hall. Thank you for everyone who came out despite the raindrops - we appreciate your support.

There's another chance to get your local goodies at this weekend's Winter Farmers Market - November 22, 10am - 2pm at the WISE Hall. Don't forget those reusable bags and it's raffle weekend - get your tickets for a beauty prize - $1 each or 7 for $5.

Holiday Markethmposter
The holiday season is fast approaching (or if you've been to a mall lately, apparently it has already arrived) so its not too early to start thinking about your holiday gift list and who has been nice enough to get great gifts purchased at the Holiday Market. As always, this year's market features the best of what we do all summer long packaged up for the holidays. You can find fine quality jewellery, pottery, textiles and wood craft. Fill stockings with cookies, soap and lotions, candy and chocolates and outfit your seasonal table with fixins for a fabulous dinner or celebration. Don't forget to round out your purchases with a market gift certificate or reusable shopping bag - for those

Admission is a $2 suggested donation and the proceeds are a major fundraiser for the Vancouver Farmers Markets. Tell a friend or better yet - bring them!

Volunteers Needed - HOLIDAY MARKET
Helping out at the Holiday Market is a great fun - the atmosphere is festive, the music is great and everyone is in such a great mood. We love the holiday market not only because it is a great business day for all the vendors but it is also a time to see friends and much loved customers. We're looking for help with all aspects of market setup and operations - selling raffle tickets, door ticket taker and sales of market merchandise.

If you have some free time and are willing to lend a hand, please get in touch with Stephanie, our Volunteer Co-ordinator at volunteer@eatlocal.org

MADE IN CANADA - UPDATE
In the summer, new guidelines defining Product of Canada and Made in Canada on food labels and advertising were created:
Product of Canada: Under the new guidelines when the label claim Product of Canada is applied, all or virtually all of the significant ingredients, components, processing and labour used in the food product must be Canadian.
Made in Canada: The Made in Canada claim may be used when the food product is manufactured or processed in Canada regardless of whether the ingredients are imported or domestic or a mix of both.
Other Qualified Claims: Qualified claims for other food products that do not meet the new Product of Canada and Made in Canada guidelines may continue to be used. In particular, Roasted in Canada, Packaged in
Canada, Distilled in Canada, Processed in Canada, etc. could be used provided that they are not false or misleading.

The revised guidelines will come into effect on December 31, 2008. It is recognized that many products produced or manufactured before this date may already be on store shelves. However, it is expected that all products produced after this date would comply with the new guidelines.
