Vancity (http://www.vancity.com) Vancity knows that one of the most important issues facing us today is food security, and ensuring that we have continued access to local, natural and organic food. By investing in businesses, not-for-profits and sector initiatives that are focused on local, natural and organic food, Vancity is working to grow and promote a viable and sustainable local food system -- one that contributes to a healthier environment, improved individual health, and a more resilient local economy. Vancity's investments in our community's food system goes beyond financial, as Vancity provides valuable expertise to non-profits and social enterprises in the local food sector and supports vital partnerships between local food organizations, businesses, funders and government. Over the past 5 years Vancity and the Vancity VISA enviroFund have supported the Vancouver Farmers Markets to start-up new, thriving neighbourhood farmers markets including the Kitsilano Sunday Farmers Market and the all-outdoor Saturday Winter Farmers Market near Nat Bailey Stadium, and in 2012, the Wednesday Main St. Station Farmers Market. Additionally, since 2010, Vancity has supported the Vancouver Farmer Markets by providing project start-up funding to develop the New City Market, a permanent multi-purpose local food hub for the City of Vancouver featuring space for an indoor-outdoor farmers market, commercial processing kitchens and product aggregation services. Recently, Vancity also joined on as a sponsor for our 2012 fundraiser - The Big Harvest Draw. Many thanks to Vancity for their support of a vibrant local food system. |

modo. the car co-op |
Modo (http://www.modo.coop) is a carsharing organization. We provide affordable carsharing to Metro Vancouver residents – including market vendors – in their own neighbourhoods and building a region with more sustainable transportation options. As a not-for-profit, member-owned co-op, our business decisions are based on environmental, social, and economic factors. Transit-oriented carsharing removes up to 30 vehicles from the road; by removing cars, Modo members reduce congestion and greenhouse gas emissions. Modo is Vancouver’s only truly local carshare. We were founded in 1997 in the heart of the West End – and we still operate in downtown Vancouver. We work with local suppliers and service providers as much as possible and are members of LOCO BC, an organization that supports and advocates for local businesses. We’re proud to sponsor the Vancouver Farmers Markets because we also believe in the vision of a strong local economy the Market supports. We’re excited we can help the Market grow this vision! |
